A language delay can be noticed when your child has not reached their communication milestones. Language disorders occur when a person has trouble understanding others (Receptive language), or sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings (expressive language). Language disorders may be spoken or written and may involve the following:

Content (semantics)
Use (pragmatics) of language in functional and socially appropriate ways.

A voice disorder occurs when voice quality, pitch, and loudness differ or are inappropriate for an individual’s age, gender, cultural background, or geographic location. It is present when an individual expresses concern about having an abnormal voice that does not meet daily needs even if others do not perceive it as different or deviant.
A swallowing disorder involving the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, or gastroesophageal junction. Consequences of dysphagia include malnutrition and dehydration, aspiration pneumonia, compromised general health, chronic lung disease, and choking. Dysphagia intervention may concentrate on swallowing exercises, compensatory swallowing strategies (including posture considerations), bolus consistency modification, and caregiver/patient education.
